Filming Tips

Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I was so surprised by what happened at the just concluded nollywood week film festival in France,  where Tunde Kelani ' s movie titled "Dazzling Mirage" emerged as the best movie and was awarded viewers choice award.

Why was I surprised? Well, Dazzling Mirage is a fantastic film which truly deserve international awards but looking at great movies that compete with it, you will assume that dazzling mirage chances are somehow slim. Movies were submitted from all over Africa, movies like " Love or something like that,  October 1, Dry and lots more. All these movies are fantastic but what might have touched the audience was the Dazzling Mirage story line.

I was with Tunde Kelani some days ago and he told me that the message his movie conveys is very important to him. The other movies screened at the event were also great story wise and there is something I know about all of them, they are all technically great. They used great cameras and they were all professionally directed, but the theme I mean there should be an anchor upon where your story treads.

If you receive an inspiration to write a story, take your time and study hard on the subject you are trying to compose. It is very necessary to step up our games at this time, movies are not really selling as such, some people don't want to watch our movies because of the strength of our stories and technicalities. I got to a Pastor to pitch for a project and told him some great people I have worked with, I was surprised when the pastor told me he does not watch their film because it is technically poor compare to secular, then I tried to convince the pastor that the ministry and Christian Film Production in general has greatly improved. This is to also stress the point that there is need for us to up our game technically and production wise. I talked about raising production designers but till now I don't think I have seen or heard of anyone yet and this is an aspect of production that will make our job to stand out. If you are an artist or artistically gifted as a child of God, you can develop yourself, get online and study how to do this, when we embrace this, it will transform our industry for good.

Thank you for your time. Please feel free to ask your questions and share. If you want your movie to be reviewed in our new program coming on TV and Web which will lead to free adverts for your film, you can inbox me. Remember, it is going to be constructive criticism to make us better and excerpts of the movie will be shown to wet viewers appetite. Some movies are available for the movie review program, and our brethren in other continents can also participate.

Brethren please pray along with us as we take up the conclusion of our movie titled " Prime Suspect". Thanks for your support.

Filming Tips:

Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I was privileged to be at the just concluded GOFEST where people of like minded gathered to learn and share to the glory of the living God. I was particularly blessed with the teachings and expositions.

I thank God for the life of Laitan Faranpojo who put up resources together to achieve that goal with the support of few in our midst. One of the take home of that event is that we need to change our mentality. we also discovered that the problem of many people is change. Our people can be seriously sentimental in their casting and the crew selection, those are the attributes of a mediocre.

This is a very short film from true life experience, please watch and share in all platforms, by doing so, you are truly evangelising. I want to apologise for being unable to fully launch my website, the designer messed up, he forgot the key to the admin section and I can't do anything about it until the current subscription expires and that is why I had to resurrect my longtime blog. I intend to be loading video training and I am starting very soon.

This video was short and edited by my guys, and I want to use this opportunity to tell us we can freely advertise our movie on this blog, just inbox me your details and your trailer, please let the video quality be in HD, I can also help you with that if you want. So feel free to advertise your coming event as well. Do you know that "Avengers" latest version was shot with 8 blackmagic pocket camera as action cameras on the fighting scenes. Any camera that can shoot raw footage is good enough for filming irrespective of the price.

Till next week monday when I shall monday when I shall be coming your way again, keep sending your advert and event notifications. Feel free to share, subscribe to my channel on YouTube, like the blog, keep your God-given dreams alive and remain blessed.

Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I pray that the change in government in Nigeria will bring great and positive changes in our various lives. Economically speaking, the country is in deep debt, I am happy we have a change in government but with hope and prayer that this present administration will be able to restore the glory and finally tackle electricity problem which is the major problem of the nation; that is after corruption.

The music video was shot two weeks ago at Ondo Nigeria, it was edited and treated on blackmagic davinci resolve, it was also shot on blackmagic cinema camera. Tenors have a unique way of rendering African melody. I really wish other gospel artiste will also be as original as this people, but most of them want to be like the secular artist, just putting the name of Jesus into a totally worldly song.

There are films you may shoot and not use crane, mini-jib, steadicam, glidecam, car mount and the likes but you may really need to consider using dolly. There is no movie that does not need a dolly but you can do without it if you cannot afford it but it is very  necessary. Imagine someone discussing a touching sorrowful event with her friend, expecting her friend to sympathize with her. If the friend start to shed tears as a result of what she is hearing, will it not be nice to start moving in on the close of the one who is crying? Moving in slowly will connect the viewer with the emotion of the actress. But if you place the camera just on a tripod, it cannot give thesame effect. You may tell yourself that you can zoom in with your zoom lens, then you may be wrong because zooming in can never bring thesame effect as dolly in. Try it.

I am not saying this because I have a track and dolly, I also have other equipment which I have earlier mentioned. I was in need of a track and dolly shot about three years ago while shooting and directing a movie titled candle in the wind, I had no steadicam nor glidecam as an alternative, so I took a boy's bicycle which I found in the house, I placed the camera on top of the handle

That is the link to the picture, I also tried different positions to actually get a smooth dolly shot. So you can use wheel chair, or even a wheel barrow can also come handy. Just be creative and always try to give God your best.

Feel free to share, if you have missed any of my past post before I activated this blog, you can visit christian film institute page on Facebook. Till next week Monday when I shall be coming your way again, please keep your God-given dreams alive and remain blessed.
