Hello everyone, hope you are good? I have a lot to tell us about sound, we continue from where we stopped last week. Someone as...ked me to talk about tascam 60d and the rest, no problem.

We invest a lot into videos, I expect us to do the same to our audios. But we hardly do this, we always want to spend small money on sound, even if the director of photography intends to bring much more powerful equipment for us we will discourage him because of money. A movie without clean sound is a waste of time. Have you seen some movies with generator sound on the background giving you so much distraction.

Tascam 60d, juiced link, zoom h4n, r24, Sony mixers, tascam 680d and the rest are all good for sound but the best field sound mixer is sound device. Yes, that is the name of the mixer, sound device, it is very powerful and costly, that is why many people are not using it in this part of the world, I mean africa.

It is always good to record your sound separately into a mixer/recording devices because it will provide much more richer sound than the one recorded directly into the camera. Most dslr cameras record 44.1khz while the broadcast standard is 48 kHz, so it is good for you to record your audio into a device that can even record 96 kHz sample rate at 24 bits, and of course I expect you to know that you are to record in wave format. The effect of this is a robust rich sound to work with in your post production. Some lazy editors may tell you otherwise especially if you will not pay well for their troubles in syncing the audio. Once again, pay your editor well because it will almost guarantee a good job.

Concerning microphones, you can use rode ntg 2 upward, please don't go anything less for your boom microphones, because that is the least, forget about any of these paid adverts from rode, the good condenser microphone they have starts from ntg 3 upward. Sennheiser condenser microphone is one of the best in the industry, almost all their products are great for production. There are some other costlier condenser microphones that are better but money!

Filming Tips

Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I sure did. I was at the great 30th anniversary of the mount zion faith ministries international. It was a great event indeed. I really appreciate God in mount zion faith ministries international which has produced lots of Children all over the world and I am also inclusive.

Sound Production: I don't want to bore you with stories of how important it is to have great sound in your movies, documentaries, weddings, shows and so on. I share my experience a lot and my mistakes, but some other times I go to expert on the field of the discussion to teach me first before I do the post because there is no Mr. Know it all.

Now let us analyse sound tools for quality sound production. There are different microphone for different purposes. We have lavelier microphone, dynamic microphone, omni directional microphone, unidirectional condenser microphone. All these microphones are relevant to our jobs. All microphones convert sound energy to electrical energy but the way each of them does it is different and that determines the quality of the sound energy they generate.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE

You might expect the perfect microphone to have a perfectly flat response right across the audio spectrum, but there are various practical reasons why this isn't so. Virtually all mics have a deliberate low-frequency (or LF) 'roll-off' -- in other words, they are less sensitive to frequencies below about 50Hz. Without this roll-off, low-frequency vibrations, knocks, breath pops and other such problems would produce very large, low-frequency output signals, which would not only compromise the sound quality, but might even damage loudspeaker systems.

I have used all these microphones before in one project or the other. The other very important instrument for sound production are the juiced link, small recorders, recorder/mixer, general sound mixer and field mixer. The quality of the audio you want will determine what you will look for in your instrument. The type of project you intend tk work on is also a major determinant of what to get. For music you may go for dynamic microphone which will need to be connected to an amplifier before it can produce useful sound, you can use lavelier microphone for interviews or news and so on while condenser mic is useful for movies and so on. There are lots to talk about in sound production, you know their is a difference between sound production and sound post production. We will get into details next week Monday.

What is wrong with us?

I really want to appreciate all those who commented on the last post. Sharing of experiences will go a long way in helping us to refocus.

I attended a convention of Pastors and Ministers Prayer Network last month at the redemption camp. In this meeting I met lots of great men of God like Emmanuel Kure, Steve Ogan, and so on. A missionary who finished from Capro came up to tell us about the scheme of the Islamic world. The biggest mosque in Nigeria is in the east, with love and not violence they are converting Christians in the east gradually. You now hear of someone named Alihaji Emeka, Alihaja Chinyere in igbo land. What are we Christians doing? Fighting each other, fighting for positions and our church not Jesus church. To islamise Nigeria, the government is not intending to announce Nigeria as a Muslim country, all the Muslims have to do is to ensure they cover everywhere quietly without fight since they know Christians are busy fighting for their churches and their leaders are much more concern about having private jets than giving the money to missionaries in the remote villages.

Some pastor will go out on Saturday looking 25,000 naira perfume because his perfume has finished and he must smell nice on the alter. They will climb the pulpit to showcase their wrist watch which was bought for them by a senator. They will preach and tell people that the money they have is nothing yet, concentrating the heart of the church on materialism instead of the Gospel of Christ. What is wrong with us.

With the introduction of homosexual, lesbianism, and other demonic laws, I don't think the Lord will still delay his coming much longer. We are so carried away because those who are supposed to be in the believers class are now the G.O's and area pastors. There was a time some group of drama ministers were fighting on facebook over creation of association and leadership, come and see the display of pride on a social network. What is wrong with us?

When I started posting trainings on facebook a fellow minister saw me and asked if my target is to become Ancedram president, I looked at him and thought within me "how could some people be so myopic? " is that the book of life? Why are we always chasing the shadows, lots of us have lost concentration on our calling, what is the message giving to you as a messenger? Because a messenger without a message is useless. Are you called to destroy the church or to build it? And are you aware that the church is not your congregation?

A Pastor was harassing his members and warn the members that if they leave his church he will curse their angels. I was shocked when I hear things like this and that is what I am saying about those who are in leadership position who are suppose to be members under discipleship. What is wrong with us?

A Pastor was sharing a testimony with me in order to instill his fear into my heart. The prophet said a lady was prophesying as a prophetess, she started displaying some arrogance towards me then I declared with authority that she should run mad, she is in the state of madness till date. As soon as I heard this, I stylishly run away from him. This happened about ten years ago. What is wrong with us?

Some prophet will see evil revelations towards someone, if they disclose the vision and the person rejected it out rightly which is not wise though, they will go on fasting that that evil must come to past so that that fellow will know that they are men of God. What is wrong with us?

As regards my last post, some people made us understand that past experiences was the reason why people close their eyes to other believers. I believe we have the omniscient as our God, if His Holy Spirit is inside of us then we should have discernment of spirit, and this will guide our decisions. Imagine a Pastor asking me to go to the authorities in Mushin before I can stay in the church overnight, is that because of fear or wickedness. Why do people fear the devil more than the regards they give to our God. What is wrong with us?

I don't know how Jesus will be feeling now, seeing the church he prayed for in John 17 in total disagreement. Please tell me people, what is the way out? What is wrong with us?

Christian Film Production Tips :

Benny Hinn said something profound in a message he preached some years back. He said God told him he will die at the age of 69 but if he takes good care of his body he will die at 73. Which means God says we are responsible for any damage caused by our negligence or ignorance. Rest for your own sake and for the benefit of your loved ones. Good morning. 

A friend of mine died 3 weeks ago. He was an editor, a very hard working one for that matter, he went to his bathroom to shower then he slumped and died after some struggle to get him back in the hospital.  This man worked for 3 days without sleep, he was editing one of the most popular soap in Nigeria for a media house in Lagos, he worked as an in house editor until his death. The owner of that media house is still enjoying his own family and someone else would have concluded the task he was working on. 

One of those who hardly rest are editors. In order to satisfy their boss or client they will work round the clock and overworked their heart and brain till bad things happen to their health. Whoever you are, you should take out time to rest. Editors don't set out time to stop and rest, they do this because of how much? They are always under paid yet they are suppose to deliver the best fast enough, and this make them drive themselves beyond the necessary. 

You, do you rest enough? I nearly died some years back trying to satisfy my client and my friend. Even this my client knew I acted foolishly because he asked me to rest and I foolishly said no and this cost me over 700,000 naira because of 70,000 naira job. Why can't we rest? Most times we lay on the bed to sleep our brain will continue the job at times unconsciously. This I experience often, I then decide to check whether all my muscles are actually relaxing then I may discover that my neck and head muscles are not resting then I will consciously adjust in order to make myself sleep off instead of working on animation in my brain when I suppose to be sleeping. 

Please tell your editors to rest, let them go on leave, I know if you give them leave they will use it for personal project somewhere else in order to make additional income but to what end? If you die who will spend the money. Please don't let us foolishly work ourselves to death. I will like you to please join the discussion on the issue we started last week: "What is wrong with us? ", I will post the continuation later today. I am presently lecturing a group of students on filmmaking at the university of nations, Lagos, a YWAM school, that was the reason for the delay of this post because I needed to rest.

Christian Film Production Tips :

How many times have you pictured a music in your mind with details to the extent that you can even feel it deeply as if it actually happened? That is the power of vision. Good morning everyone, hope you had a great weekend?

How many of you receive inspirations and Holy Spirit revelations and directives in your bathroom?  I could see many hands up (again this is the power of vision) because in my mind I am actually addressing 3000 people in a hall. This leading always comes to those who are in relationship with our God.

I was in my bathroom listening to Don moen's song in my mind. Funny enough, I wasn't actually playing the song, I was playing it in my mind, then the words in the song started coming up like pictures of the event in my mind, I was amazed as the reality of the power in the lyrics came on me and I worshipped the Lord seriously in my heart and started singing the song out.

This is what an editor suppose to do to any job he needs to edit, this is what a director suppose to do to any script he needs to direct, this is what a writer suppose to do to any story he conceives in his heart because out of the abundance of the heart he pours it into his writings. I remembered while I was writing my film "The Prime Suspect,"  I would stop and cry, then continued, then stop again to laugh, because the whole story was passing through me. If I could feel the story, then the audience will feel my story when they watch it. Anyone who have read the script will testify to this.

What am I driving at? Get your heart involved and seriously soaked in whatever you are doing. If you are going to work on the post production of a job , you need to understand it even before the shoot, and if possible, be part of the shoot. Whoever has worked with me on a project will testify to the fact that I always try to make the script better with permission.
