GOFEST 2015

Hello people, Gofest is around the corner, lots of movies and fun awaits you at this years' edition of GOFEST. Gofest is a Gospel Film Festival that will take place at JOGOR Center, Ibadan, opposite liberty stadium, oyo state. Date: 3rd to 6th of June 2015. Admission is just 3000 naira, which is too small for the number of movies and training you will enjoy at the event. For my Facebook friends, I will be there live to also give a talk, you can come with any question you may have in mind.

February Training on Lighting

Christian Film Production Tips:
Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I had a busy one as usual. I want to quickly answer some questions raised last week by some people as regards animation and the likes. I am not ready for anything like training for now except for those who are part of me in house in Horeb Digital Network Ltd. The reason is because, animation school and visual effect cinematography is not about talks, it is a very serious work and the most difficult and most creative aspect of production in the whole world.
If anyone should announce that you are to come for two weeks training in animation, you should know that that fellow is only trying to fool you. Such training will take nothing less than six months for you to understand, and nothing less than additional six months for you to get to the intermediate level and another six months to get to the professional level which is not guaranteed because it depends largely on your brain. Two weeks program for any technical training will help you to have a feel of it, you can then move further for better training. Any training I will organise in animation will be a long term one, because I have also been learning now for a long time and I know how difficult it is but very achievable and interesting.
Last week we talked about low key lighting which simply means painting your set not so bright but meaningfully. I have shown you this picture before. That shot was taken from my movie PRIME Suspect - the MAN, we placed a led behind the lamp and placed a gel on it to amplify the colour of the lamp, then placed another LED on a C-stand and dimmed the light, a 2K tungsten light was used as the key light from outside the window with a blue gel on it. That is an example of a low key lighting.
There are some materials you may need in order to get a good low key lighting apart from having a fast lens which is very paramount. You need diffuser, duvetyne (which is a non-reflective black fabric), black rapper, bounce (which is being used to bounce light, you can create your own) gels of different colours, as many light as you can get. My boss who taught me lighting said it is not about the amount of light you use but the level of your knowledge and creativity. By the way, I have learnt from many people, but I have only being trained directly by just three people: Patrick Afun who taught me Lighting and Camera Science, Anne Abok from whom I learnt about TV Production and she also introduced me to Colour Treatment and last but not the least Soji Ogunnaike who taught me Avid software. But Soji taught me much more. He taught me many things about life in production, he taught me to search and yearn for knowledge, be bold, be courageous, and be creative. These are some of the things I learnt from him without his knowledge. He took me to a shoot some years back. We were to shoot an advert for TATA motors, I was watching the director of photography (Not Soji) as he was placing the lights. Not too long, DJ Tee came on set and shared his own opinion about the light and he really made sense. We had lots of light on set but from another director of photography, it would have been put to better use. So, according to Patrick Afun, it is not about the number of lights you have but the creativity you possess. When my site is finally ready, I will start uploading training videos ranging from camera works. to editing, colour treatment and animation. Thanks for your time.
Till next week monday when I shall be coming your way again, keep on growing in the Lord. Please like our page Christian Film Institute, keep your God-given dreams alive and remain blessed.

February Post of Trainings

Christian Film Production Tips:
Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? My weekend was great, and I want to believe that you are all doing great in the Lord. I will like to talk about light a little, after which I will dive into what God impressed upon my heart.
I mentioned some light accessories last week which can be used on set to paint nice scenes. Assuming you have a situation where a very dark person and a very light complexioned person are on set, what will you do? I asked my trainer this question long ago, when I was being taught how to use my light meter and he said.
You should light the light complexioned person first and let the light favour that person, then take check on your meter and write it down. Then light the dark fellow as well and take his own record as well. After this, you then use that measurement to locate the equilibrium point, then light according to that measurement. With that, the lighter person will not be overblown and darker one will not be too dark on your set. I have had that scenario, when I was to light Ayobami Olakunleand a young friend of mine on a movie I directed, and I was able to get nice pictures.
I will continue on the issue of lighting next week. Someone asked me to start talking about blockings and camera, I am not on that topic yet, I think we should be looking at march for that. But there is something I have been thinking about which I will like to share with you.
I was trying to join some group of animation Artist in US online, they rejected me. The next question in your mind is why; good. They said my country is one of those who don't buy software but pirate them. They accused me for being one of them. Now tell me, what do you think about this?
BCC plugin will cost 1,995 dollars, Redgiant plugin will cost 2,500 dollars, sapphire plugin will cost about 2,800 dollars, Autodesk Maya, mudbox and soft image will be around 10,000 dollars, cinema 4d is 3,000 dollars, Adobe product can be subscribed for at 50 dollars per month, I have not mention Nuke, and the rest of them which I use on daily bases. Please calculate these prices, now tell me, if I purchase all these, how much will I or any editor now charge you for animation work or editing?
This is the reason why Nigerian editors are the cheapest on earth in my opinion. I paid and I am still paying for some of my own software legally but not all. Your holy project was edited with a pirated software. We shall continue next week.
Feel free to share, and please like our page Christian Film Institute, till next week monday when I shall come your way again, remain blessed and keep your God-given dreams alive.

February Post of Trainings

Christian Film Production Tips:
Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I am so sorry this have to come this late. I was busy throughout the weekend. I just returned home today from a location where I went to act in a movie. So I had to rest a little bit. I know I created a problem for those who have the Holiness of God in their heart last week when I talked about pirated software usage on our projects. Please I need you to really share today's post. I want us to cause a revival against piracy which suppose to start from us, because we need to lead by example, not to proof that we are perfect but we can try our best while God help with the rest.
I will like to quickly answer a question someone asked me about lighting a white and black cast on the set. The black guy needs more light and white guy does not need that much. I mentioned some materials you need for lighting like duvetyne and reflector and diffuser, you can use this to cut down the lighting on the white guy with any of this or you simply follow the light meter technique I explained last week. It is just a matter of you fixing everything right till you can see what you want.
Back to the issue of software,I tried to register with adobe twice now to rent their software but they said it will come into my country (Nigeria) soon and I love this great software. So if you are reading this and you are in United States, please let adobe understand that there are people waiting to be part of the creative cloud community legally in Nigeria. I have worked on my movie and "complicated", which is a Victor Olukoju's film on my genuinely purchased software. I am not saying this because I am a rich guy but because that is the truth. Here is what I think as the solution to this problem.
Those who are lovers of Adobe product should mail them to make an arrangement for west africa, there are good people in this land. Now there are some software you can use for free legally, and you can do great things with them if you can learn them.
Lightworks: This is a powerful editing software used for more than a decade by professionals in United States to edit movies like Mission Impossible and some others like it. You can use this professional software for editing and your mind will be at rest. After you have mastered this great software, you can move to the pro version which is not costly at all.
Davinci Resolve 11: This software is a very powerful color grading software and it is ranked to be the best in the world. You can download davinci resolve 11 lite version, with this you can edit your movie, balance your audio and colour grade your job professionally.
DAZ 3d: This is a powerful free 3d software you can download, whether for animation or game development. This is a very powerful tool with great starter models.
There are lots of things to still talk about, let us save that till next week. You can download those software I have mentioned and start the usage immediately.
Feel free to share and ask your questions. Thanks for your time, till next week Monday when I shall be coming your way again, keep your God-given dreams alive and remain blessed.

Christian Film Production Tips:
Hello everyone, hope you had a great day? The Lord is good to us in gospel film and we are blessed with great fathers. Mike Bamiloye is one of them, he motivated us at the refresher class of mount zion institute to break new grounds, we should launch into uncharted territories and one of those he mentioned was to produce movies in dialects and not just tribes which is already common. This motivated myself andOludolapo Moronfolu to produce the movie titled "Irapada De" which was made in egba dialect.
I wonder how possible it was for bro Mike Bamiloye to direct the india film he made last year. I never knew it would be that difficult to direct a movie in a particular dialect. We had a Dialect Coach on set who taught us and made us know the true pronunciation of words. I am an Egba man but I couldn't speak a statement in my dialect successfully though I never knew I wouldn't, but thank God for that location, I was able to learn real good.
Mount Zion Institute is running another session from 16th of this month, try not to miss it.

Check out this video which was just quickly put together for the purpose of this post. I will give some technical information about it within two days time. You know I promise to do double this week. The project was shot on wide screen format and no treatment on the flat pictures of blackmagic.
Egba dialect is very rich and funny, I assure you that even your own dialect cannot be easy for you to speak without flaws and foreign mixtures. Ninety percent of those who were on location was surprised that they couldn't speak fluently nor communicate without flaws in their mother-tongue. We want to speak English and train our children in foreign culture in order to appear civilized, are we not still colonized in our minds? Many children cannot communicate at all in their mother-tongue though they are living in their own land. We need to balance everything and not be ashamed of our culture.
Till the next few hours when I shall place my next post, remain blessed and keep your God-given dreams alive.
A bigger and better making of this video will be added soon.

Christian Film Production Tips :
Hello everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I am so sorry I couldn't do my posting last week because there was no good signal at the location on that faithful day.
What is wrong with some doctors in this part of the world? They play with people's lives anyhow. I lost a wonderful father because of a wicked lazy doctor some years back. All because the doctor could not diagnose what the problem was, and none of them could ascertain what to do they were just using their former experience to tell lies instead of them to tell us they had no clue. By the time someone could give us correct diagnosis, it had become an irrevocable damage and we lost one of the most brilliant Nigerian ever.
Recently, a sister of mine was feeling sick and she was advised to go to the hospital for proper attention. She got there and the doctor asked her how she was feeling? She told her she couldn't describe it, and that the pain was all-over her entire body even in her stomach. She explained further that she didn't have strength at all. The doctor at this general hospital told her to go and buy some drugs which she wrote in a paper and handed to her. Because I had insisted that a test must be carried out before she takes any drug, she told the doctor that she should be put through some tests before anything and the doctor said she didn't need any test that it was the pain in her stomach that affected the whole body. She came out of the hospital and gave me a call so I told her not to buy any drug but to go for it at another place and when she did we discovered that she had typhoid on a high side. Then she showed the paper given to her by the first doctor, the drug was to cure ulcer. I asked her to throw the paper away and thank God she is perfectly okay after been treated for typhoid fever.
Who do we blame for this wicked attitude of our medical practitioners who play games with people's lives?
The pictures were from a movie I just directed in Ondo state. We lit a sitting room which we converted to bedroom. You can see the second picture, throughout the wide and close shots the colour contrast was the same because we didn't have to change the lighting position for any shot and we were able to track well.
I will place another post tomorrow because I need to make up for that of last week. Please what do we do about this costly mistakes from doctors?
